Sony New Xperia 1 IV World’s First True Optical Zoom Lens: Price, Release Date, 4K Display & Specs

Sony has revelation its new Xperia 1 IV flagship smartphone. Which is the world’s first true optical zoom lens in a smartphone camera. With a 1.5x zoom, equivalent to 85-125mm. When it comes to the overall design, this phone does resemble its predecessors. It even picked up the flat sides from the Xperia 1 III.

it covers a nice range for taking pictures of peoples, and counts as a welcome advance on the switchable 70mm/105mm dual telephoto found on last year’s Xperia 1 III.But it can’t match the outright reach of some competing devices, or the zoom ranges routinely found with standalone cameras and lenses.

Sony Xperia 1 IV comes with four 12-megapixel cameras

You could write a book with the number of details Sony sent me about the cameras on the Xperia 1 IV. And the photography nerd in me loves that. But I’ll keep things concise for this review.

All of the cameras on the Xperia 1 IV have new and faster sensors, meaning they’re capable of multiple calculations and processing within fractions of a second. You can shoot bursts of 20 photos per second with auto exposure and autofocus enabled, using any camera on the phone.

Wide anglef/1.724mmYes12MP
Telephotof/2.3-2.885-125mmYes12MP

This 12Mp telephoto lens is joined by the 12Mp, 24mm main camera and 12Mp ultra-wide with 124° field of view. It looks like the other two sensors are unchanged compared to the Xperia 1 IV, but there are several other features worth talking about.

All three cameras now support Sony’s eye auto-focus and object tracking tech, and can shoot up to 4K HDR at 120fps. Both the main and telephoto lenses also support optical image stabilization (OIS) for steady footage while on the move.

However, the front-facing camera has seen hardware upgrades. It’s now a larger 1/2.9 sensor at 12Mp, which should improve low-light performance. All three of those cameras offer 120 FPS read-out speeds. On top of that, they offer real-time eye autofous, and 20 FPS burst shooting with HDR. 60 FPS continuous autofocus and auto-exposure calculations are also a part of the package, as is 4K 120 FPS video recording.

As you might expect from Sony’s flagship phone, there are plenty of premium specs elsewhere. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip under the hood combines with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (microSD expandable) on the only configuration available.

You’ll also find a bigger battery than on last year’s model. It’s now a 5,000mAh cell, although Sony doesn’t specify how long it’ll last. 30W fast charging will supposedly get you 50% charge in 30 minutes, but there’s no adapter or USB-C cable included in the box.

Xperia I IV High-level Audio Compartment

The multimedia equipment of Xperia 1 IV is completed by the particular care also placed on the audio sector , created in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment . This has led to the inclusion of a new set of stereo speakers that improve bass reproduction and the ability to manage audio in 360RA (360 Reality audio) format.

Also through the conversion of stereo sources into multi-channel audio. We also find support for DSEE Ultimate, the Bluetooth LE format and the new Music Pro function that allows you to record professional-level audio using smartphone microphones.

Music Pro uses a cloud-based computational system and therefore allows you to have more power available for audio processing, removing background noises and other unexpected noises, thanks to a particular segmentation and separation technology.

BEST OPTIMIZED FOR GAMING

Although Xperia 1 IV does not present itself with the classic lines of a gaming phone, the top of the Sony range does not betray the DNA of the Japanese house and has several optimizations for games, thanks to the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming platform and other dedicated solutions.

The Gaming Gear accessories will be made in collaboration with the Japanese SCARZ esports team and will be released in select markets in the fall.

In addition to accessories designed for gaming, Xperia 1 IV immediately offers the Heat Suppression Power Control system for managing temperatures (active both during the game and while charging), the ability to record clips containing the last 30 seconds of play.

Under The Shell A Real Top Of The Range

The attention paid to the photographic sector is undoubtedly indicative of how important this element is for Sony, however it is certainly not the only one on which the Japanese house has paid attention.

Under the body we find in fact all the technical specifications that are expected from a true top of the range of mid-2022 , so we are talking about a smartphone equipped with the high-end solution from Qualcomm, or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

To assist the SoC we find 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of non-expandable internal memory, as well as a 5,000 mAh battery with fast charging support that allows you to recover 50% in 30 minutes . It is certainly not one of the fastest solutions among those on the market, however Sony plays the card of long-term duration, since it speaks of a battery capable of offering a life cycle of up to 3 years .

To complete the equipment there is the presence of the IP65 / 68 certification, a design in line with that of the Xperia tradition, characterized by square shapes and the combination of a metal edge and two glass panels – Gorilla Glass Victus in this case – for the front and back of the smartphone. As for the screen, also this year we find a 21: 9 OLED unit with 4K resolution (it should be the usual 3,840 x 1,644 pixels) and refresh rate at 120 Hz (sampling of touches at 240 Hz).

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 along with a 4K 120Hz display

Now, when it comes to specs, this is a powerful device, of course. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 fuels the Xperia 1 IV, while the phone features a 6.5-inch display. That is a flat 4K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is up to 50-percent brighter than the one on the Xperia 1 III. We’re looking at a 21:9 aspect ratio here, as we’re used to when it comes to Sony phones.

Android 12 comes pre-installed on the Xperia 1 IV, while the device does feature full stereo speakers (two of them). Bluetooth 5.2 is included, and so is an NFC chip. The phone does support 5G connectivity, of course. The device is IP65/IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.

The device includes 12GB of RAM and 512GB of flash storage (expandable). A 5,000mAh battery sits on the inside, while the phone supports both wired and wireless charging. Speeds are unknown, but Sony says you can get this phone up to 50% in only 30 minutes.

A Side Facing fingerprint Scanner, and an Audio 3.5mm jack

All the physical buttons are located on the right-hand side. The power/lock button doubles as a fingerprint scanner, while the volume up and down buttons are placed above it. A physical camera shutter button is also placed on the right side.

The phone’s rear cameras are vertically-aligned, and they’re placed in the top-left corner. ZEISS’ T* coating is applied here, as is on Vivo’s flagships. This is here to battle light flares and reflections.

Many of you are probably wondering if Sony removed the audio jack, and the answer is no. A 3.5mm headphone jack sits at the top of the phone, as expected. This is one of the very few flagships that offer this feature.

SONY XPERIA 1 IV PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The new Xperia 1 IV will be available from mid-June in some selected markets – including Europe – and will be offered at a price of 1,399 euros in the three colors Black, Ice White and Purple, an undoubtedly important figure which confirms the intentions of the house.

Together with Xperia 1 IV, Sony has also announced the availability of a particular cover with kickstand called Style Cover with Stand , which will be available at the recommended price of 34.99 euros . in the three colors Black, Gray and Purple. In this case it is a case designed to enhance the modern design of the smartphone and is made of antibacterial material. The cover will also be available at the launch of Xperia 1 IV, therefore always from mid-June.

The Xperia 1 IV packaging has been reduced by 50% compared to the past and does not include the charger and power cord. This is a choice that Sony has made as part of the Road to Zero project initiatives that aim for the company’s zero environmental impact by 2050.
